The physics of lightning
Despite centuries of study, much of the behavior of lightning is still a mystery. Recent developments in high-speed photography, electronics, and data recording have revealed lightning to be a far more interesting phenomenon than we ever imagined. I will describe the physics of lightning and thunderstorms, including some historical perspective, describe what we know and don't know, and then talk briefly about some recent results from my theoretical, experimental, and data analysis work.
