Can physics and biology get along? Using computation and spectroscopy to study regulation
Regulation controls essentially all living processes through a complex network of signal amplification and switching. Errors in this network often lead to disease and therefore regulatory proteins are key pharmaceutical targets. I will describe some of my laboratory's journey into understanding the details of biological regulation at the molecular level. We are using both computational (mainly molecular dynamics simulations) and experimental (time-resolved laser spectroscopy) methods to gain more insight into the dynamics of structural change than was previously possible.
